BIKÓSI

Two objects for the table. Glass that breaks the light. Steel that holds the hand.

SiO₂ tumbler in Smoke, held

Designed from material intelligence, not from motif.

SiO₂ held upright, Smoke SiO₂ turned, the hobnail field across the body SiO₂ cradled in the palm

Object one

SiO₂

Textured Tumbler — Smoke

Silica, given a surface. Hand-blown into a hobnail mould so the relief is mass, not ornament.

Light

Two hundred lenses, one wall of glass.

Each dome refracts independently. Nothing passes straight through — the light is broken, warmed and handed back.

Weight

Heavy in the palm. Thin at the lip.

The dome field closes toward the base, so the glass is weighted where you hold it and disappears where you drink.

Fingertip against the hobnail relief

You notice it while drinking, which is the only test that matters.

Uncut and uncoated. The surface keeps the softness of the mould rather than the sharpness of a wheel.

Turn it

Every angle breaks the light differently.

Object two

Cu+Cr

Copper over steel. A dimpled handle that sits at one angle in the hand and will not roll off the table.

The handle

Raised by hand, dome by dome.

The same field that runs the glass runs the copper — struck from behind so each dome stands proud of the surface.

The join

Copper meets steel on a cut, not a seam.

The transition is left visible and irregular. Two metals, each doing the work it is good at, and no attempt to disguise the moment they change.

03 — SiO₂ — Smoke

Cradled. The weight sits low.

04 — SiO₂ — Smoke

Held from beneath, base to the light.

05 — Cu+Cr — Silver

The full setting, laid on its rests.
